The expanded fight scene also makes sense, as Hinata SHOULD be trying to free Naruto, rather than fight Pain, and I liked the animation for the Gentle Step: Twin Lions Fist. After watching this Ep, you can absolutely empathize with Hinata and understand why she feels the way she does about Naruto, rather than (as Naruto says) think she is simply hesitant, nervous, and weird.
Filling in WHY exactly Hinata would choose to sacrifice her life for Naruto, rather than the way Kishi needed to handle it for brevity's sake was an excellent choice, as the Manga version of this seemed very contrived. They need to put this animation team to the side for huge arcs like this, as their pacing, the appropriateness of the filler, and the overall animation was excellent.
This ep was the first one were I felt I was actually WATCHING the Pain Arc I had expected from the beginning, rather than the shittly animated arc we have been subjected to.
